CCP Half Moon Bay - Hatch Campus

Picture
Located on the Hatch Elementary School Campus, our Half Moon Bay Before/After School Center is open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Each of our learning and creativity centers are designed for different age groups:  TK - 1st, 2nd - 5th.

Our centers are warm and inviting, with couches, kitchens, work spaces for homework/learning, and play areas.  The environment helps us to create a program with set activity times and structure, while also offering flexibility to provide your child with the option to self-direct during their time with us.

Highlights:
  • Attendance tracking for all children (parent or teacher sign-in and parent sign-out); TK/Kinders are picked up from class by CCP teachers.
  • Site Supervisor is California Department of Education permitted,  having completed college coursework specific to before/after school programs and early learning .
  • All teachers are required to obtain at least 24 Child Development Units from college coursework to hold their Teacher Permit.
  • 1:14 teacher to child ratio; this is a requirement of licensed before/after school programs per California state law as directed by the Department of Education.
  • Hands-on homework support, customized for your child's needs.  Families collaborate with the Site Supervisor to provide direction and feedback to tailor the support.
  • Daily snacks provided.
  • Enrichment programs including: art, nature/science, cooking, sports.
  • Strong relationship with The HEAL Project and learning about the natural world through hands on experiences.
  • Full day programing for most days CUSD is closed, lunch and snack included.

Curriculum:
We base our program on the Emergent philosophy of teaching and curriculum planning, which focuses on being responsive to childrens' interests to create meaningful learning experiences.  Emergent programs prioritize active participation, relationship building, flexible methods, inquiry and play-based learning.  CCP teachers expose students to new concepts (examples include caterpillars, deep oceans, farming) with the goal of inspiring a love of learning.  Teachers then skillfully create opportunities for children to learn more about the topics that interest the children the most.

A Typical Day Includes...

Depending on the hours your child is here this could vary, but a typical day includes the following activities.

TK-1st grade:
  • Quiet reading, journal writing, artwork (nap if needed for TK/Kinders)
  • Snack time and center exploration time - typically includes a unique art project (such as sewing, crafts, etc), creation with blocks or LEGOs, dramatic play, or free art/painting
  • Large group learning - weekly or monthly themed topics that are of interest to children (Pumpkin Festival, Upcoming Holidays, Seasons)
  • Gross motor - outdoor play with time to be energetic (relays, play structures, sports)

2nd-5th grade:
  • Homework time and help
  • Snack time and small group activities (construction projects, long term art projects such as murals, educational games: math and literacy focused), exploration of learning centers (science, blocks, writing journals, recreational tabletop games: foosball, hoops, etc)
  • Focused, teacher-guided small group projects: cooking, decorating themed bulletin boards, scripting and shooting commercials
  • Gross motor - outdoor sports, relays, time to get moving around!

I have been with CCP for over 20 years (September 16) and supervise the school age program at Hatch Elementary.  I have coached baseball, soccer and basketball on the coastside and run CCP’s summer sports camps with the knowledge that physical activity is the foundation for the development of gross motor skills including hand-eye coordination, spatial reasoning skills, problem solving while also building social emotional skills such as teamwork and collaboration.

I am a current CASA volunteer-a court appointed special advocates program, CASA of San Mateo County pairs foster children with community volunteers who provide one-on-one support. I enjoy DIY projects both at home and with my 4th/5th graders including the construction of flower beds and fencing at the heal garden at Hatch Elementary. Halloween is a favorite time of mine, as I get to dress up in costume for work!!!

Teacher: Candelaria Acosta

Candelaria (or Teacher Candy) has been with CCP for over 10 years and she loves it!  She feels blessed to know each child and the great variety of characters in her group each year. She enjoys getting to know not only the children and their unique needs and interests, but their families as well. Candy loves the teaching team she works with, and believes that they are the definition of teamwork and caring, in a fun environment.

Aide: Marlene Torres

Marlene recently joined the CCP team and is currently taking ECE courses. She is looking forward to working with our school age children.
