Spotlight on a Teacher

Fran Selah – El Granada

Fran with studentsOur CCP El Granada teacher, Fran Selah (or “Franny” as some of her friends refer to her as), has been chosen as our first “Spotlight on a Teacher”. She is easily recognizable because (as the children say) she is the teacher that wears the hats. She has been an active member of CCP on and off for the past 22 years. She started working at CCP Half Moon Bay as an aide in one of the Kinder classes. She worked at our CCP Preschool in Half Moon Bay as a teacher and worked at CCP Montara school-age and preschool last summer, and is currently working at CCP El Granada. Fran even worked at Kings Mountain during the summer when CCP ran their afterschool program there!

While working for us, Fran continued her education and just recently earned her bachelor’s degree. Two mornings a week Fran goes to our two CCP preschools and works with the children on Zoophonics, a kinesthetic phonics program that she sincerely believes in. In her spare time, Fran volunteered with a program through the library system that brought novels to read and review with incarcerated youth. For fun, Fran knits beanies for local surfers and sells them at Nor-Cal Surf Shop in Pacifica. It is clear that Fran has dedicated her energy and time to children of all ages.

We are so lucky to have her with our agency for all the years she has stayed with our program. She is an amazing and loving person who has touched the hearts of all the teachers, parents and children she has come in contact with.

Fran has tried to retire several times, but we keep asking her to come back. She has informed us that she will be retiring in the fall and we have all agreed that we still want to use her as a substitute teacher within the agency. We are so happy to have Fran as part of our CCP family!
